Project-Based Learning in

Schools and Learning Communities

Tuesday 9 September, 7.30-9.30pm BST

Are you thinking about setting up a school or learning community? Or perhaps you run or work at a provision already and are considering what approaches might work best for your learners. This webinar will give you an introduction to Project-Based Learning (PBL).

Please join us to learn from the journey that Pete Hubery took a primary school on when he was Deputy Head between 2016 and 2022. Pete will share with us how he designed, developed and delivered his REAL curriculum, which was based on the principles of project-based learning and sought to challenge, empower and engage young people through authentic, place-based, real-world learning.

About Our Speaker

Pete Hubery has extensive experience as a mainstream classroom teacher and a senior school leader.  He trained as a secondary school teacher in 2000 and spent 8 years working in London before moving to Norwich.

In 2014 he made the transition to the primary phase, taking up a deputy head role at a small city junior school.  During this time he designed and led the school’s REAL curriculum. Hugely influenced by the work of Ron Berger, Pete worked with the Innovation Unit to design a bespoke curriculum based on the principles of project-based learning that sought to challenge, empower and engage young people through authentic, place-based, real-world learning.

Since leaving mainstream in April 2024, Pete worked at a self-directed learning community before taking up a post as a KS2 teacher at an SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) setting specialising in trauma informed practice.

Pete set up KindEducational in May 2024 and uses his blog - Flourish and Survive - as a ‘sandbox dream space for a future school’, conjuring up a system truly committed to liberating learners and learning.
